I became a vegetarian the day I began my journey in the footsteps of my great grandfather around Latin America. My grandmother had told me wonderful stories about her father’s adventures in the Americas; wild jungle journey’s, gun fights, hidden treasure in a mango orchard and a daring escape from the Mexican Revolution with the help of bandits. She had never said anything about the near impossibility of avoiding starvation if you are a vegetarian. Mind you, as you’ll see, there were a lot of things she didn’t tell me…

What triggered you to become a vegetarian. It used to be a nightmare for me eating abroad, I’ve been a vegetarian since I was about 8 years old, it is getting better now although UK restaurant / pub veggie food can still be very bland and badly made.
I guess I like a challenge!
I can definitely empathise with being a vegetarian in Latin America, I lived in Chile for a year and it was a challenge to say the least! I’ve just started a vegetarian blog detailing where to find the best veggie food in Madrid – a place that is traditionally just as difficult to find good vegetarian food!
